A round table discussion on “New Strategic Concept of NATO: perspectives for partner states,” was organized by NATO Information and Documentation Center in partnership with NATO Public Diplomacy Department on April 15, 2010. |
Representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, academic and civil societies that have attributions to this field, participated at this round table discussion.
In the framework of this discussion, Mr. Michel Duray, Head of NATO Outreach Countries Section revealed the importance of adopting new Strategic Concept for NATO, which concomitant reaffirming the way of security culture of NATO. While presenting main cultural security subjects, Mr. Duray referred to the importance of an adequate reaction at the real threats for the international security. In this regard, searching for an international consensus for NATO regarding security perception is of special importance. Yet, elaboration process of the new strategic concept of NATO has been developed in partnership with allies and partners, having profound discussions with Austria, Finland, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine as well as other world states that have a partnership with NATO.
At their turn, national experts stressed the necessity of promoting democratic reforms in the framework of national security sector as well as problems that faces Republic of Moldova while implementing these reforms. According to the experts, continuation of reform in security domain is a condition Qua Non of general process of state democratization. Without such reforms, other national reforms will be impossible to promote in country as well as to maintain good relations with NATO, which is an opportunity to support transformation of security sector.
